RECREATION CENTER SURVEY UNDER WAY
ThisWeek - June 02, 2010
The community center survey sponsored by local governmental entities, the New Albany-Plain Local School District, the New Albany Community Foundation, the Joint Park District and the YMCA is moving forward on a tight timeline.
Dave Ferguson, chair of both the Plain Township board of trustees and the core group working to move the community center exploratory process forward, said the survey began last week and will wrap up next week.
The group is using the local public opinion research firm Saperstein Associates to conduct the survey of 300 residents. Those polled would be asked to answer 40 questions over the phone.
Ferguson said the purpose of the survey is to provide feedback to community officials about what residents want to see in a future community or recreation center.
"Our intention is to obtain residents' input and to utilize the information to help guide future priorities for the New Albany community," he said. "There is a special emphasis on the survey to understand the potential need for an indoor community field house or recreational center. The committee is excited to obtain the feedback and results from our residents."
He said the survey results would be made public by the end of the month.
Craig Mohre, president of the New Albany Community Foundation, said his organization hopes to have the survey results by its board strategic-planning retreat June 14.
He said the information would help guide future priorities for the foundation.
The Plain Township trustees, New Albany village council members and the NA-PLS board members all voted earlier this year to spend up to $2,500 on the Saperstein survey, which cost $10,000 and is being split between the participating entities.
Village Mayor Nancy Ferguson said council planned to discuss the survey at its meeting June 1.
A few council members have had concerns about the questions on the survey, such as a query regarding personal finances.
